Responsible consumption and production are two concepts that are intrinsically correlated and, moreover, they are crucial for a sustainable economy.

For the United Nations, sustainable consumption and production consist on doing more and better with less resources. This implies that economic growth does not undermine the environment and, therefore, it is feasible to increase resources’ efficiency while more sustainable lifestyles are being promoted.

Considerable players should intervene in this process. From public administrations, through consumers (increasingly conscious), until mass media and civil society organizations. And including all the supply chain, where there is room for lots of players: producers, industrial manufacturers, packaging and machinery for the production process, among others.

Sustainability has gained importance in the last years and it will continue being the main guide in lots of sectors. For instance, we see the efforts of the beverage industry firms, such as the 100% recycled PET bottle of Coca-Cola, or the great sustainability strategy of Unilever.

A sustainable and responsible firm

For a company, in order to be sustainable, they should make an analysis of their core business based on 4 essential pillars: management of the waste arising from their industrial activity, management of toxic gas emission, optimization of energy consumption, and efficient management of water consumption.

We highlight these two last factors because is where our industrial activity relies. In particular, in the design and production of more efficient equipment regarding space, energy and hydric resource.

Some of the actions that production companies can implement are:

• Control and reduce consumption of resources like water, energy and raw materials.
• Prioritize among suppliers the ones more committed with sustainability.
• Bet for packaging designed and created with more sustainable materials.
• Communicate the firm values and commitments in environmental issues, involving all the firm’s employees.
• Develop and manage a clear policy for waste treatment.

Sustainability in the production line

Nowadays, industrial product manufacturing requires technical contributions from manufacturers to protect the environment and the sustainability of industrial proposals.

In many sectors, sustainability and tendency to protect the environment are “sine qua non” requirements, which means that are not considered proposals that, despite of offering benefits to the user, are not creating added value for planet sustainability.

Solutions for a sustainable production line

In Traktech, we design and manufacture solutions for handling containers in three areas within a production line:

1. Production space utilisation

The Traktech machine design is intended to create compact machines, saving factory space which can be used for other purposes.

The following are examples of compact designs:

• The Rotary Unscrambler ROTRAK AAF with automatic format change saves storage space from the funnels’ kit for the different containers.
• The Rotary Unscrambler ROTRAK and Side-Grip Rinser SG Series in monoblock configuration allows an increase in the production effectiveness ratio for square meter and a reduction in the dimension of the machine installation.

2. Energetic efficiency when handling containers

Our unscrambling system does not use compressed air for the movements of the bottles inside the machine, with the consequent important energy savings and as a clear differentiation from other classic rotary unscrambling systems.

Compressed air is not used neither in our Rinsers SG Model, nor in our Twist Rinser.

3. Interior bottle cleaning without water

Special section for water and energy because, traditionally, they were the resources more used when talking about cleaning containers.

Water and energy used in cleaning containers implies a huge expense which cannot be recycled, requiring, in addition, subsequent processes for the containers drying, driving up the procedure.

Different solutions have been proposed in the market to solve this issue, for instance, the one using inert gases like nitrogen, although they have not yielded good results yet and continue being expensive.

Understanding the needs of the beverage manufacturers, our R&D team has developed a bottle cleaning machine without water which uses Ionized Air technology, getting excellent production results and, furthermore, increasing sustainability.

All our Rinsers models, being the Rotary Rinser R, the Side-Grip Rinser or the Twist Rinser, are equipped with Ionized Air systems.
